City Rubber Stamp Company
The
company started business from a garage on 7 September 1949 and soon had
to expand to larger premises in Andries Street and then to Prinsloo
Street. In 1970 we moved into our own building at 5 Rebecca St,
Pretoria West.
What
started as a husband and wife setup, though still in family hands,
today have 15 people in its employ. Harry Dinkelmann, the original
owner and founder of the company, passed away in August, 2007. He was
at the office till a few hours before he passed away quietely. His
brother joined him in 1956 and was with the Company until his untimely
death in early 1975. Today, his wife also is still actively involved,
he is assisted by his son-in-law, Louis and daughter, Estelle. They are
actively involved in marketing, sales and production and are taking the
Company into the new age of technology where everything will be done
from the computer. The design and manufacture will be, as the saying
goes, from the comfort of your chair, as well as the marketing and
sales through the Internet. Although counter and telesales will still
be part of our business, the move will have to be towards a share in
e-business to stay in the forefront of our industry.
Technology
has also caught up with rubber stamps. Back in those early years,
together with hotmetal (lead lines, loose metal and wood letters),
mould or forms were cast from plaster of paris with an Indian silk
lining. Later the Americans made a laminate from board with phenolic as
the base for the mould from which the stamps were moulded. This again
was revolutionised by us with a unique, and cheaper, way of just using
phenolic powder as the basis for the mould. Then came the age of
electronic means and 'rubber stamps' were made firstly from a
photopolymer material by exposing it to ultra voilet light through
film. Today it has totally had an industrial 'revolution' and rubber
stamps are now mostly manufactured by laser engraving.
At City
Rubber Stamp we have phased out the old fashioned hot metal
manufacturing, even for the deep, industrial stamps and everything is
done from the computer.

Products
The
Company today specialises in many marking products, all up to now,
manufactured from rubber or synthetic materials
Apart
from a growing demand for self inking stamps, we still manufacture the
old traditional Rubber Stamp that you need a separate ink pad. This is
especially handy when marking wood, linen and other similar 'rough'
materials which need a deep etched stamp and is most often of large
format.

The Future
What
about the future? The facts are already on the table; to stay
competative in this market, one must stay in touch with technology and
technology is improving quality and production speed.
This
has become apparent with the introduction of new technology ie LASER
Engraving. This not only increased the graphic possibilities of our
current products but has expanded the product range that we can
offer.
So with
the old way of manufacturing Rubber Stamps for marking wood, linen
etc,out
the back door, we now also manufacture name badges, identification
plates, small office signs, while the full range of self inking and
plain rubber stamps are still available. Doming is also a part of the
badge manufacturing. View our product range from out homepage.
